How To Do A 360 Flip On A Skateboard

Here are the steps you need to take

Step 1. Your foot positioning is crucial to master this trick. The standard position (this is a general outline and may change from person to person) should have your back foot in the pocket (concave) of the frontside edge of your skateboard. Your front foot should be on about a 45 degree angle about half way up your board with your heel hanging off the backside edge.

Step 2. Start to ride at a slow but reasonable pace, I wouldn’t suggest trying to learn this trick standing still because it’s a lot harder to get the scoop of your back foot if your not moving.

Step 3. As you pop you want to really focus on the scoop of your back foot and swing it behind you fast, also most of the weight on your back foot should be in your toes.

Tip. One thing I see people do incorrectly when trying this skateboard trick is they rely too much on their front foot for getting the flip, this is where they differ hugely from varial flips. The Key to 3 flip is in your back foot and finding the right placement of it so that it will flip without you front foot having to kick it way out like a kickflip. That’s why it’s so crucial to find the right placement of your feet! With that being said your front foot still plays a part, it just doesn’t play a big part of the actual flip and rotation, that doesn’t mean it does nothing for it, its just not even close to as important as your back foot.

Step 4. After you’ve popped the skateboard leave your front foot out to guide it around and catch it so it doesn’t over rotate. Make sure you keep your upper body square with the skateboard because it’s very easy to get thrown off when both your feet are doing different things.

Step 5. Staying on top of the skateboard is the hardest part to this trick and my suggestion is to focus on that, stay on top of the board and remember that its closer to land on the back of the skateboard with two feet than to land on the top three feet away from your body with one foot.

Step 6. As you land on your board be prepared for it, this skateboard trick is notorious for slipping out backwards, so make sure you have your knees bent and your weight evenly distributed between both legs.

Step 7. Stomp it on the truck bolts and roll away clean.

How to Find the Right Skateboard Shoes

skateboard shoes1 How to Find the Right Skateboard Shoes

Your shoes are an important tool in skating. They need to have the proper traction, shape, and provide the adequate balance, so that the skater has control over their position and board at all times. You’ll want to avoid shoes designed for other sports, such as basketball or running, because every aspect skate shoe design is critical to the functionality you need.

The top manufacturers of skateboarding shoes are: Adio, Circa, DC Shoes, Duffs, DVS, Emerica, etnies, Fallen Footwear, Globe, Osiris, Supra, Vans, Vox, and Zoo York. Buy from a skate specialty store and not from some mall shoe shop. These are your feet we’re talking about.

The first thing to look for in skateboard shoes is that it have a completely flat bottom with at least ½ inch heel pads to absorb some of the shock when landing. Many high-end skate shoes even feature an air pocket in the heel for this very reason.

Also check that the sole be wide, so that you have maximum possible contact with the board. Look for vulcanized rubber soles, this will provide enough flexibility for you to move your foot to guide and feel your board, while giving enough cushioning to prevent heel bruises and other common foot injuries suffered by skaters.

It’s a good idea to look for a little extra padding when trying to find the right skate shoe, especially large puffy tongue and sides for maximum foot comfort and support. A high-top style ankle collar will provide a lot of added support to your feet when doing intricate flips and lands. High speed jumps put a lot of impact on your joints, and you’ll appreciate any shock absorption you can get, after an afternoon of hard landings.

High quality skateboard shoes include a reinforced outer lower lace area with bolstered shoelace eyelets, and often feature full lace guards. This is important so that you don’t hurt your foot or tear your lace when you’re sliding your foot along the side of the board- a necessary move in a lot of tricks. In fact, you should look for double or triple stitching all around when trying to find the proper skate shoe, as a skater’s shoe get a lot of rough, stressful treatment.

Remember that many skate tricks demand that you drag your toes across the board’s rough grip tape. This will put a hole through your old school sneakers in a heartbeat. The proper skate shoes will have a plastic or rubber toe cap to keep your shoe strong and protect your toes.

Before you try out your new skateboard shoes, make sure that there are deep patterns on the sole. These grooves necessary to maintain traction- and therefore contact- with your board. The more intricate the pattern on the sole of the shoe, the more flexible it will be.

Even though all eyes-except of course your own-will be focused on your feet, never sacrifice comfort for style. Remember, the right skateboard shoe will be designed to let your feet keep pace with the board…and nothing looks better than that.

Five Skateboard Trick Tips For Catching Air

skateboard video clips2 Five Skateboard Trick Tips For Catching Air

The road from newbie to pro is a tough one…full of trial, error, slams, sacks, and bruises. Here are some skateboard trick tips to get you started.

Skateboard Trick Tip #1- The Ollie: One of the classic moves is the ollie, which is the name for a set of jumping tricks. The goal is basically to jump as high and far as possible without wiping out. Clearing an obstacle is a dramatic way to demonstrate your ollie skills. A successful ollie depends on having proper foot placement. The front foot should be about two-thirds of the way up the board. To trigger the ollie, kick down with the rear foot and go into a crouch to streamline. Happy flying!

Skateboard Trick Tip #2- The Frontside Grind: The best place to practice this skateboard trick is a backyard pool (you’ll want to make sure it’s empty first!) Do a frontside kick turn until you get closer and closer to the edge, get your speed up and get your truck on the ledge to make it a grind. Be sure to put your weight on your feet, push, and hug the rim of the pool.

Skateboard Trick Tip #3- The Pivot-Fakie: The goal here is the same as a regular pivot, but instead of following through on the landing, freeze your weight and reverse the motion. Start by perfecting the classic pivot on a mini-ramp or quarter-pipe and then practice this , letting your lower leg guide the board to offset your weight for balance.

Skateboard Trick Tip #4- The Kick-Flip: The standard parking-lot curb is a great place to perfect the flat-land kick-flip. The essence of this skateboard trick is a hard step to the tail of the deck with your back foot, as you raise your front foot into the air and position it near the nose, in case you need to use it to guide your board through the full side-spin. You also need to be ready to land back on your front foot once the flip is complete, so keep your rear foot positioned near the back-kick of the deck to maintain your balance during landing.

Skateboard Trick Tip #5- The 360 Kick-Flip: This trick can go down anywhere, but works best on flat surfaces at first. Point your front foot at a 45° angle about halfway down the board, with your back foot hanging off the side of the rear kick. Give a hard step to the rear kick of the board with your back foot for momentum giving a spin scoop to the tail. You will use your front foot as a guide to give the board the proper flip and to keep your body oriented to match the board. Throw your front foot forward to get it out of the way. Spread your legs wide and hang in the air while your board is rolling over. The key to this skateboard trick is it doesn’t work unless the board lands on its wheels-and the skater lands on the board.
