Chad Knight and Built To Shred host Jeff King rig up a brand-new 64GB Apple iPad to see if it can replace your standard skateboard. Will it shred, or will it be dead, that was the question? A very entertaining show and we just had to breakdown to all the juicy bits in pics.
So how did they build the iPad Skateboard, lets look closer…
WARNING for APPLE lovers, all following images may hurt a bit…
… and once you build it, you must skate it!
Ok so the standard issue didn’t hold up, they made it 2.0
Now the we have shredded, rebuilt and destroyed… Let’s look back 1 more time…
What a way to spend a day and a few hundred bucks.

These may not be standard issue Plan B decks but I still want one. Danny Way needs to get a hold of Mr. Smith and take this skateboard deck team line mainstream. Let us all get down with the Plan B team skate ninja bushido style!

Danny Way started skateboarding at age 6 at the Del Mar Skateboard Ranch. At age 11, he won the first contest that he entered and shortly after he received sponsorship from Hosoi Skateboards and Vision Skateboards. In 1988, he briefly rode as an amateur with the famous Bones Brigade skateboard team, which was sponsored by Powell Peralta. He, along with Bucky Lasek were featured in a very short segment in the Powel video “Public Domain.”
Months after Way joined Powell, he left to join a company called H-Street. While with H-Street, Way would win his first vert contest. His sponsorship with H-Street also lasted briefly. In 1990, he would leave H-Street for a company called Blind. He rode for Blind Skateboards from 1990-1991, but soon left to join the founder of H-Street (Mike Ternasky) to begin a new company called Plan B Skateboards. Ternasky died in a car accident in 1993, leaving team ownership to Way and teammate Colin McKay.
How To Do A Tailslide On A Skateboard. This is a pretty difficult trick. You have to know how to F/S 5-0. Go at a pretty fast speed but you have to feel comfortable with it. The easiest way I find is to go parallel with your target. When you come up to your target try to Ollie as high as you can then in the air turn a lat 90. If you have trouble doing the 90 or always land on a salad grind turn your shoulders when your doing you 90. When you land lean on your tail and put all your weight on it to make sure you slide. The you can twist off or kickflip off or whatever. Kickflips are aren’t that hard if your a good skater. Just pop down and really put pressure on your front foot when dragging up the grip tape.
Video Filming has entered the “Age of Technology”! Everything has transformed and gone through a metamorphosis. All aspects of video from filming, making, editing and even watching videos have been affected. Working backwards we see that you, the viewer, the camera person and even the skater have jumped in head first into some far out skate videos! You don’t go to the local video store and rent a video of your favorite skater. Even if you went to Blockbuster, you’d probably be renting a DVD and not a VHS tape. The largest Skateboard Companies, Shoe Companies and even Sunglass Companies are rolling out credits! Hell, even the skater down the street with a MacBook and a VX. I’d be willing to bet that most of you click on YouTube to watch just about whatever you want and all for the right price! Yep, it’s definitely a different World out there today! Gone are the days of the antiquated Boob Tube! The TWS Awards are keeping up with the changing times. For the first time ever there’s a The Best Two Video Parts in One Year Award. May I have the envelope please…and the Winner is… Stefan Janoski.
By now I believe that most of us have heard that 2007 was the “Year of the Video”. It could have just as easily been referred to as the “Year of the Two Video Parts”. Ten or more Skaters fell into that category in 2007. That is number unprecedented of entrants! I’m telling you, it is a whole new World! An impromptu category was created for that specific reason. It made history to have the “Year of the Two Video Parts” on the TWS Awards Ballot! For Stefan this was a well deserved award. It was a simultaneous commitment to touring and not some out with the old show and start filming for the new show during the same year thrown together project. Habitats “Inhabitants” and Nike SB’s “Nothing but the Truth” were both dropped in October. “Nothing but the Truth” called for trying on some acting for size. All of that garnered two nominations for Best Street Skater and Best Video Part! Plus, as you know, his last part in
Inhabitants had almost everything to do with Habitat getting nominated for Best Team and Best Video and now he’s taken home the very first Best Two Video Parts Award. Janoski did what some of the best Skaters in their time did but he didn’t do it while filming for one video. He did it while filming for two parts.
This, more than anything, is a testament to Stefan Janoski’s ability to stay both consistent and dynamic, while at the same time capturing our attention with progressive and inspiring skating. Somehow he manages to grasps and relate that addictive quality that so often gets lost in the mix. The 360 flip in “Nothing but the Truth” and the fantastic last 3 clips in “Inhabitants” at the UC Davis rail were enough to convince even the biggest haters to jump on the bandwagon. I would have to say that both Duffel and Silas deserve honorable mention for having put up such a worthy fight though. Ok, so now that 2007 is officially the past and we’ve all had a chance to pick up the pieces left in the wake of the barrage of videos, take a look at Stefan’s parts in “Inhabitants” and “Nothing But the Truth” back to back. This category may disappear in coming years and we should definitely get our fill of it while we can!
I have standed on a lot of skateboards and I weigh 230 pounds but I have never flexed a skateboard this hard and this kid cant weigh that much! WTF Time? This is the June 23,2008 cover of Time Magazine
